Hatha Yoga

Hatha yoga, according to the ancient teachings taken from the Pradipika, “is a sanctuary for those suffering every type of pain.” The benefits of yoga known to the ancients has come to the west at a time when it is desperately needed. Chronic illnesses, diseases, occupational injuries, sports injuries, pain syndromes, emotional stresses and a multitude of demands on the body and mind are prompting us to look for more effective and long-term ways to manage our physical and emotional well being. Yoga therapy is an individual experiential process designed to aid you on your path to wellness. We offer several types of yoga therapy by Emily Smith, Certified Rehabilitation Counselor and Longview’s only certified yoga therapist.

Phoenix Rising

This approach is based on the premise that pain, dysfunction, and psychological stressors are held in our bodies at a cellular level. Working individually in an atmosphere of confidentiality, safety and acceptance PRYT uses mind body techniques to allow you to explore their relationship organically. The practioner uses supported yoga postures, psychotherapy techniques, meditation and other awareness techniques to guide you on a path of exploration, healing and ultimately transformation. PYRT is beneficial in many life situations including working through relationship issues, managing stress and anxiety, relieving chronic pain, supporting substance abuse recovery, healing form emotional wounds and promoting personal growth.

Structural Yoga Therapy

Individual structural yoga is designed to meet your specific level of physical ability to work toward improved health and well being. Individual sessions are designed for personal attention, support and specific techniques or your body and life. Tools taught to bring about effective change include yoga postures, specific breathing practices, meditation and visualization techniques. The specific practices taught are a blend of ancient yogic wisdom and a western kinesiology approach to posture execution. Benefits may include improved strength, flexibility, range of motion, balance as well as reduced chronic pain symptoms, anxiety and depression.

iRest

Integrative Restoration, or iRest for short, is a process that is designed to help people learn to release stress, relax, be at ease, and resolve issues of sleeplessness, anxiety, fear, depression, chronic pain, post-traumatic stress, and a host of other things we experience as human beings. As you learn and strengthen the skill of welcoming everything just as it is, you will learn how to remain in a state of well-being during even intense experiences, long enough to integrate them and leave them completely behind. iRest provides you tools that enable you to trust yourself to make the decisions that are right for you in the various situations that arise in your life.
